Jerash and Ajloun

Jerash:
Jerash is one of the best-preserved Roman archaeological cities outside of Italy. Located north of Amman, it is famous for its grand Roman streets, temples, theaters, and arches. Walking through Jerash feels like stepping back in time, especially during the Jerash Festival for Culture and Arts, which showcases music, dance, and poetry in an ancient setting.

Ajloun:
Ajloun is a lush, green area known for its pine-covered hills and cool climate. Its highlight is Ajloun Castle ، a 12th-century Islamic fortress built by one of Saladin’s generals to defend against Crusader invasions. The area is also popular for hiking, eco-tourism, and visiting nature reserves like Ajloun Forest Reserve.

Day 2:
Amman – Petra Visit – Petra Hotel.

Petra

Petra is one of the most iconic archaeological sites in the world and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Located in southern Jordan, it is famously known as the “Rose-Red City” due to the color of the stone from which it is carved. Petra was the capital of the Nabataean Kingdom over 2,000 years ago and is renowned for its intricate rock-cut architecture and advanced water management system.

The most famous landmark in Petra is Al-Khazneh (The Treasury), a magnificent temple carved into a sandstone cliff. Visitors can also explore the Siq (a narrow gorge leading to the city), the Monastery, the Royal Tombs, and the Roman-style Theater. Petra is considered one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, and it offers a magical experience for history lovers, hikers, and adventurers alike.

Day 3:

Petra – Madaba – Nebo – Amman Hotel

Mount Nebo

Mount Nebo is a significant religious and historical site located west of Madaba in Jordan, and it is considered one of the most important religious landmarks in the country. The mountain offers a panoramic view of the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea, and on clear days, you can even see Jerusalem from its summit.

It is believed that Mount Nebo is the place where the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him) saw the Promised Land before his death, according to religious tradition. At the summit, there is a memorial for Prophet Moses and a Byzantine church with stunning mosaic floors dating back to the 6th century AD.

The site is visited annually by many pilgrims and tourists for its religious and historical significance, as well as the beautiful natural scenery surrounding it.

Madab is a historic city located south of the Jordanian capital, Amman. It is famously known as the “City of Mosaics” due to its remarkable collection of mosaic artwork dating back to the Byzantine and Roman eras.

One of Madaba’s main attractions is its ancient churches, especially:

St. George’s Church (The Church of the Map):
This is the most famous site in Madaba. It houses the oldest mosaic map of the Holy Land, dating back to the 6th century AD. The map accurately depicts historical locations in Palestine, Egypt, and Jordan — including Jerusalem.

Church of the Apostles:
This church features a beautiful mosaic from the 6th century, with a central image of a woman symbolizing the sea, surrounded by fish and marine creatures.

Church of the Virgin Mary:
An ancient church that showcases magnificent Byzantine mosaics, discovered beneath a more recent church structure.

Madaba is a must-visit destination for history and archaeology lovers, offering a wonderful blend of artistic beauty and religious heritage.
